Registration will be open to high school and university students, and adults. Professional flutists and teachers are encouraged to attend. A rhythm section (piano, bass & drums) will be in residence for the week, offering the students daily experience playing in a jazz ensemble. Sessions will also be offered by the members of the rhythm section, in order to broaden the flutist's understanding of the inner workings of the jazz trio. Rhythm Section in residence: The Jazz Flute Big Band will rehearse flute ensemble arrangements daily. Alto and bass flutes will be supplied, when needed. Students will also participate in smaller ensembles. Individual coaching sessions will be scheduled with Ms. Ryerson (included in tuition) CURRICULUM Daily master classes will be held, focusing on a variety of topics: Practice techniques designed to strengthen improvisational skills Workshops on jazz articulation, phrasing,
and tone quality A study of different jazz styles;
'Bebop to Bossa Nova'; Jazz history Ali Ryerson Jazz Flute Master Class and Concert Sept. 27 & 28 2008, Sandia Park, New Mexico (Hwy 14 between Albuquerque and Santa Fe) Master Class: Saturday, September 27, 9:30am-4:30pm, with Bert Dalton, piano. Advance registration required. Auditor fee $40, all musicians welcome. Participant fee $75, limited to jazz flutists Concert: Sunday, September 28, 4pm, with Bert Dalton, piano; Milo Jaramillo, bass.
